Mum drops two dress sizes by ditching just one thing - 'no dieting' (2025)

A mum-of-two has revealed how ditching her morning cereal helped her drop two dress sizes — without dieting, calorie counting, or cutting out family meals.

Jodie Travers, 34, says she’s gone from a size XL to a size M in under five months and it all started with a radical breakfast rethink.

“I used to start every morning with a massive bowl of cereal and toast — quick, easy, and full of sugar,” Jodie admitted. “But within an hour I’d be craving biscuits, and by mid-morning I’d feel bloated and tired.”

She swapped the sugary start for a zero-carb breakfast — usually eggs, avocado, yoghurt, or sometimes bacon and spinach — and says the results were almost instant.

Jodie said: “I didn’t expect it to make such a difference, but I stopped snacking, felt lighter, and the weight just started coming off. I feel like a different person.”

Jodie, from Burnley, Lancashire, opened up about how she used to hide behind oversized clothes and avoid mirrors: “I wasn’t proud of how I looked.

"I felt sluggish, uncomfortable, and honestly — just stuck. I didn’t want to pass that feeling on to my kids.”

Now, she says she feels confident again and has rediscovered her love of fashion, shopping for styles she previously avoided. As the weight began to drop, Jodie also started moving more — though it didn’t begin with gym sessions or intense workouts.

“At first, I could only manage a brisk walk around the block,” she said. “But I stuck with it — and over time I started running in short bursts, then building up from there.”

She now runs three times a week, mixing walking and jogging, and has set herself a personal goal: “I’d love to do a half marathon one day.”

It’s not just her own diet that’s changed — Jodie now feeds her two children, aged six and four, in a similar way, with low-sugar, protein-rich breakfasts.

Jodie said: “I realised I was giving them the same sugary stuff I was hooked on — chocolate cereals, fruit juices, jam on toast. Now they have eggs, fruit, yoghurt, or even mini omelettes in muffin tins.”

She said they were more focused in school, less cranky mid-morning and she’s proud to be setting a healthier example.

Why it works – nutritionist explains

Daniel Hayworth, a registered nutritionist specialising in blood sugar control, said Jodie’s breakfast change was backed by science: “Sugary breakfasts spike insulin and lead to hunger crashes.

"By switching to protein and fat in the morning, your body stays fuller for longer and burns fat more efficiently throughout the day. It’s a sustainable and smart approach.”

According to Edit Suits, Jodie’s wardrobe transformation is just as powerful as the physical one. “When someone drops from XL to M, it completely opens up their options — more tailoring, more shape, more confidence,” said an Edit Suits spokesperson. “They go from hiding to highlighting.”
