🩺✨ UTRGV School of Medicine Serves Community at Operation Border Health Preparedness!Our UTRGV medical students, faculty, and staff joined the 25th annual Operation Border Health Preparedness (OBHP), an initiative by the Texas Department of State Health Services. 🌟From skin cancer screenings to immunizations, our team collaborated with other organizations across five Valley locations, serving over 2,000 residents.Dr. Kelsey Baker, assistant dean of Pre-Clerkships and assistant professor of Neuroscience at the UTRGV School of Medicine, highlights the importance of OBHP:"This event provides our UTRGV medical students with an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience, while serving the communities where they live and study, and someday, will work as doctors. The UTRGV School of Medicine's Careers in Medicine office hosted a special lunch information session for students, faculty, and staff. ✨Dr. Stanley Fisch, UTRGV School of Medicine Professor of Pediatrics, gave a special presentation on "The History of Medicine in the RGV." 🏥📜 Dr. Fisch covered the establishment of the Valley's first hospital, significant medical advancements such as the eradication of polio, and the ongoing challenges faced by underserved communities in accessing healthcare. 💉🌟This event marked the launch of RealMD, a community initiative where students, faculty, and staff support each other in maintaining a higher purpose in medicine. 🌱💊 RealMD events provide a platform for students to network with physicians, seek guidance, and develop leadership skills. Each month, participants choose a new topic to explore in order to better understand the challenges of the medical profession. 🌍🔍
